There’s something new to spot outside the Parish Council offices and Village Hall on Braeside Road – our very own red telephone box has arrived! This is a brand-new addition to St Leonards, purchased by the Parish Council and transformed into a community book library for everyone to enjoy.
The idea is simple: residents can pop in a book they’ve finished, pick up something new to read, or swap one for another. It’s free, easy, and open to all.
Why it’s a great addition to our village
-
Sustainable & eco-friendly – Sharing books gives them a second life and helps reduce waste.
-
Bringing people together – A shared library right in the heart of the community encourages connections, conversations, and a love of reading.
-
Accessible to all – No forms, no memberships, no cost – just grab a book when you’re passing.
-
Preserving tradition with a twist – The red phone box is an iconic symbol of Britain. By introducing one here and giving it a new purpose, we’re blending heritage with community spirit.
How you can get involved
We’d love everyone to take part – whether you’re dropping off a novel, picking up a thriller, or sharing a children’s storybook. The more we keep it topped up, the more varied and exciting the little library becomes.
This small investment by the Parish Council is already creating something much bigger: a sustainable, free service that everyone can benefit from.
So next time you’re near the Village Hall, stop by the red phone box library – your next favourite read could be waiting inside.
