I was educated in Bedford and Cardiff and was a student apprentice at the Austin Motor
Company, Birmingham where I became a chartered production engineer. Several years
later I yearned for greater excitement and joined the RAF as a graduate engineering
officer. More years training at Cranwell in aero systems saw me complete 25 years service
on operational squadrons, staff appointments, and an exchange with the Canadian
Armed Forces. As a Wing Commander I oversaw the engineering development of the
Tristar air refuelling tanker, and operation of the Vulcan bomber throughout the Falklands
War. After military service I moved abroad to the Sultanate of Oman, employed as the
Base Manager at Seeb, Muscat, working for Airwork Ltd., and was responsible for a large
ex-patriot workforce contracted to the Sultan of Oman’s Armed Forces. On return to UK I
tried my hand at local government and I became a councillor with the West Oxfordshire
District Council. A move to Ashley Heath, Dorset, saw me as a candidate for the St
Leonards and St Ives Parish Council. I have been a councillor now for several years and
Chairman over the difficult 2 year period of the Covid pandemic. I have been happily
married for 60 years and have 2 sons, one of whom lives in Verwood, and 3
granddaughters. I continue to actively dedicate my time on projects in council, striving to
improve matters for residents wherever possible.
